Why was this regional economic development partnership formed?
The Knoxville-Oak Ridge region has enjoyed good economic success in recent years, thanks in part to a strategic plan that was developed to guide business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts from 2003 to 2007. The Innovation Valley partnership was formed to develop a new economic Blueprint representing the next five-year phase in creating long-term success for the region.

How was the Blueprint developed?
The blueprint was created based on extensive economic and demographic research, community stakeholder interviews, and an analysis of comparable cities for benchmarking purposes.

How were the regional partners selected?
Research for the new economic blueprint included a study of the regional labor shed. The six partner organizations represent the communities that are directly impacted by economic development along the Innovation Valley Technology Corridor.

This 25-mile-long corridor extends from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Roane County through Knox County to McGhee Tyson Airport in Blount County. The communities along this corridor are home to the region’s top research and development organizations as well as a significant concentration of technology businesses.
