Knoxville, Tenn, - July 26, 2010 -- Melaleuca The Wellness Company opened its new distribution facility in the Forks of the River Industrial Park in Knox County, Tennessee today. The new 222,000 square foot state-of-the-art distribution center is connected to the company's existing 175,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The new building allows Melaleuca to triple shipments from its Knoxville operations to 300,000 packages per month to U.S. locations east of the Mississippi and eastern Canada. The new facility will be capable of shipping 900,000 packages per month when fully staffed.


Oak Ridge, Tenn. – July 22, 2010 – ORNL Federal Credit Union announces the purchase of 37 acres of land in Oak Ridge. The tract is located in the Horizon Center Business Park and seven miles west of the current main office location at 221 S. Rutgers Avenue.

KNOXVILLE/OAK RIDGE, Tenn., March 24, 2010 -- High tech researchers and the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley economic development partnership welcomed this week’s announcement by Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to extend the contract of UT-Battelle to manage Oak Ridge National Laboratory for another five years.

UT-Battelle, a partnership of the University of Tennessee, which is headquartered in Knoxville, and the Battelle Memorial Institute, has managed the lab since April 2000.


KNOXVILLE/OAK RIDGE, Tenn., February 19, 2010 -- An ambitious new initiative in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley has set its sights on providing solutions to many of the nation’s transportation and energy security challenges.


VONORE, Tenn., January 29, 2010 -- One of the world’s first cellulosic ethanol demonstration plants opened near Vonore, Tennessee, today, marking what Gov. Phil Bredesen calls “an important step forward” in the race to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

The $50 million facility is expected to have an output of 250,000 gallons of ethanol annually and serve as a testing ground for new technologies that can be used in larger scale production.


CLINTON, Tenn., January 21, 2010 -- Tennessee’s Solar Initiative took another leap forward today with the announcement that Missouri-based Confluence Solar will invest $200 million in a manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facility in Clinton, Tenn., near Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Confluence Solar manufactures high quality, mono-crystal silicon ingots that increase the efficiency and lower the cost of solar photovoltaic solar power generation.
